Everyone’s responsibility to defend our freedom(s) has just become even more important

Okay, in the meantime, it turns out that the Ministry of Magic is not on our side in the fight against Voldemort and the Death Eaters. These are difficult times – and rather the only sure thing seems to be that it’s going to get more difficult for a while.

The important thing is that we do not just sit back and sigh and gasp and wonder and fold our hands.

Let us do something.
That something could be a donation to an association (whether in Estonia or elsewhere) that would help Ukraine win the war more easily.
It could be a critical look at our own association’s budget – and forward-thinking steps to ensure that we can operate sustainably even if the resources we have so far taken for granted dwindle.
It could be more active participation in networking, more robust advocacy work, or bolder communication about your association’s activities (and impact).

Fewer than one in ten of the world’s population lives in a full democracy. If you live in Estonia, you are part of that minority. But to maintain the health of democracy, of our freedoms and opportunities, both in Estonia and in Europe more widely, we need a strong, diverse civil society – both in terms of active people and sustainable, functioning associations.

A strong, active civil society in Estonia is necessary for Ukraine and Ukrainians. And it is also indispensable for Estonia’s security, our independence, our freedom. What is it that you are doing to defend democracy today? What about your association? What about your network?
